17. Daily Exfoliation Explained

Updated: Mar 21

There are several types of daily exfoliants available. Exfoliting cleansers, nighttime treatments and specialised daily exfoliants like Daily Microfoliant and Daily Resurfacer.

Skin Resurfacing Cleanser- a dual action exfoliating cleanser that smoothes the skin leaving it refreshed. Lactic Acid concentrate helps retexturize skin suffering from visible signs of aging by removing dulling surface debris and helping to accelerate skin cell turnover. Use daily avoiding the delicate eye area to prepare the skin for maximum product penetration of youth boosting ingredients. Massage one pump into the face, neck and decollate and remove with warm water.

Clearing Skin Wash- a highly active cleanser aimed at problematic adult skins. Salicylic Acid, a Beta Hydroxy Acid, stimulates natural exfoliation to help clear clogged follicles and smooth away dullness that contributes to visible skin ageing. It is advised to use this product on recommendation from a professional skin therapist. Use a pea size amount, lather and massage over areas of concern avoiding the eye area and remove with warm water.

Retinol- is an antioxidant and skin-storing ingredient for nighttime use only. Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids imperceptibly renew the skin and shed dead skin cells leaving the skin's appearance healthier, smoother and more vibrant. Retinol works at a cellular level, so the skin retains at least 12% of its regeneration once the treatment is complete. For more information read my blog post about 'flipping the switch on ageing' It is important to cleanse the skin in the morning and apply sunscreen with spf30 or above to prevent pigmentation and photo ageing from daylight exposure.

Daily Resurfacer- a leave on exfoliant gentle enough to use around the eye area. This is a specially formulated and designed finger puppet to tone and gently exfoliate the skin while on the go. Alpha and beta hydroxy acids and fruit enzymes smooth the skin, helping to reduce the signs of premature aging without irritation or redness. After cleansing, tear open pouch and remove applicator. Place over index finger and apply in a circular motion by touching the applicator to the face focussing on areas of concern.

Daily Microfoliant- a powder made from rice bran that when mixed with water activates the salicylic acid and papain enzymes to help slough off dead skin cells and brighten the skin. It is gentle enough to be used around the eye area, but I would only recommend this monthly. This daily exfoliant is suitable for all skin types, for those with sensitive skins use only three times a week. To use it pour a blueberry size amount into wet hands and rub together to form a cappuccino foam, massage over face. neck and decollate for sixty seconds and rinse off.

Daily Superfoliant- a powder that contains alpha hydroxy acids and Activated Binchotan Charcoal to purify the skin and adsorb the environmental toxins within the pores. An antipollution complex with Niacinamide, Red Algae and Tara Fruit Extract help guard against the damaging effects of pollution. This is great for clients who work, live or travel in and around cities. To use pour a blueberry size amount into wet hands and lather, massage all over face, neck and decollate for sixty seconds and rinse off.

Follow with prescribed toner, serum and moisturiser.
