91. Skin Science - Exfoliant Accelerator 35

Updated: Mar 21

This week PHAB Service Stars founder Nergish Wadia-Austin hosted an Instagram Live featuring Orchids Retreat Beauty & Wellbeing Founder, Diana Richardson and they discussed how she stays 'one step ahead' in industry to retain our industry's Michelin Star.

Part of the discussion was about innovations and why it's important to continue to evolve our offerings and skillset.

Treatment Spotlight

NEW Lift + Luminate featuring Dermalogica Exfoliant Accelerator 35 aka the 3 - Day Peel

The Exfoliant Accelorstor 35 is a professional product that is used to tailor our Profesional Skin treatments. All of our facials are customised to suit each client's skin and lifestyle. This new treatment uses nano technology and powerful ingredients to help stimulate cell renewal and cell turnover. This deeper exfoliation targets specific skin concerns such as ageing, pigmentation, dehydration, congestion, and dryness.

The key product used in this treatment is Dermalogica's Exfoliant Accelerator 35 which contains highly active ingredients such as lactic acid made from lactose, salicylic acid made from willow bark, papain aka papaya and bromelain aka pineapple fruit enzymes to exfoliate and smooth the skin leaving minimal redness.

Sally Penford, Dermalogica Education Manager states,
"Dermalogica does not rely upon one form of 'active' ingredient, but rather a synergy of 'actives' to achieve maximum results utilising a combination of cosmeceutical botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's) and beta hydroxy acids (BHA's)- always with skin health as a priority."

Exfoliation is important in homecare and professional treatments because it helps to remove dulling and dead surface cells. In our new advanced facial we utilise exfoliant accelerator 35 because it contains chamomilla recutita flower extract and olive leaf extract. It has a blend of papaya fruit extract and willow bark extract infused with lactic acid to brighten skin.

This low pH (3.2) concentrate in a Chamomile Extract base contains skin smoothing ingredients including Lactic Acid, peptides and enzymes from bacteria and Papaya, plus fermentation enzymes to boost exfoliation.

Exfoliant Accelerator 35 is a highly active concentrate that may be used undiluted on the skin or added to Dermalogica chemical exfoliants to intensify and accelerate exfoliation activity.

Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that smooths and retextures the skin, giving the skin a burst of cell renewal of up to 30%! Salicylic Acid is a beta hydroxy acid that helps dissolve the top layer of the epidermis to enhance skin exfoliation and luminosity.

There are three levels of exfoliation depending on the individual condition and need of the client's skin.  During each facial a skin analysis will ascertain what level of exfoliation is recommended.  After each treatment it is essential to wear high factor sun protection with a factor 30 or above to protect the skin and if possible avoid exposure all together for at least three days.

Advanced Exfoliation Benefits:

  • Provides intense exfoliation, leaving skin smooth and optimally prepped for subsequent treatment products.

  • Accelerates the activity and exfoliation efficacy of selected Dermalogica professional Exfoliants.

  • Allows for customization of professional resurfacing.

  • Helps stimulate cell renewal and cell turnover rates to help smooth skin while improving texture and tone.

This stage of the facial combines advanced ingredients with nano technology for an intensive resurfacing treatment. The mixture of the most advanced cosmeceutical ingredients with the newest innovative technology leaves the skin looking 'like glass'.

The treatment is customised to suit individual skin requirements and is recommended as a weekly or bi-weekly course of six facials to achieve optimum results, but can also be used as a seasonal booster treatment.

Once the skin has been resurfaced it is penetrated with an advanced ion active serum and a skin specific masque to focus on the clients skin concerns. We've combined a deeper exfoliation and micro current lifting treatment for the ultimate results leaving the skin plump and luminous!

A microcurrent facial is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses low-level electrical currents to stimulate the muscles and tissues of the face. It is often referred to as a "natural facelift" or "non-surgical facelift" because it aims to improve muscle tone, tighten the skin, and reduce signs of aging.

During a microcurrent facial, small electric currents are applied to specific points on the face and neck using handheld devices. These currents mimic the body's own electrical signals, which helps to increase circulation, promote collagen production, and improve the overall appearance of the skin. A gentle workout for your facial muscles.

The treatment is painless and safe, with clients occasionally experiencing a tingling or vibrating sensation during the session. Microcurrent facials are known for their immediate results, but a series of treatments is usually recommended for long-lasting effects. It's like taking your face to the gym, the more often you go, the firmer your muscles.

It is important to note that microcurrent facials should be performed by trained professionals as the intensity and duration of the electrical currents need to be carefully monitored to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.

There are several reasons why it's important to have professional facials:

1. Expertise:

Professional aestheticians are trained and experienced in providing specialized skin treatments. They have in-depth knowledge of different skin types and conditions, and can tailor the facial treatment to your specific needs. They can assess your skin's health, identify any underlying issues, and recommend suitable products and techniques to address them effectively. We offer a thorough consultation and face mapping to customise each facial.

2. Deep cleansing and exfoliation:

Professional facials involve thorough cleansing and exfoliation, which are crucial for maintaining healthy skin. They can remove accumulated dirt, oil, dead skin cells, and other impurities that may not be adequately addressed through regular home care.

Deep cleansing and exfoliation promote a clear, smooth complexion, and allow your skincare products to penetrate better, enhancing their effectiveness.

3. Targeted treatments and results:

Professional facials can address specific skin concerns more effectively than at-home treatments. Whether you're dealing with acne, aging signs, hyperpigmentation, or dehydration, an aesthetician can use specialized treatments and techniques to target these issues directly. They may incorporate advanced protocol like mesotherapy, chemical peels, microneedling or nano technology to achieve more significant and long-lasting results.
