88. Why is marketing and branding important in business?

Updated: Mar 21

We are so lucky to have social media at our finger tips. I remember years ago we had to look businesses up in the yellow pages and the companies who had large marketing funds would take out a quarter, half or full page ad.

Fast forward to our present day and we have a variety of social media platforms, Google is at our fingers tips for anything we want or need and it's much easier to reach out to our clients and potential new customers with emails and texts rather than having to go knocking door to door.

The 'old fashioned' methods do still work and sometimes make more of an impact because it stands out to receive a hand written note or special something dropped on your doorstep. A written thank you is still very meaningful and for the super busy bees in our society a quick text to acknowledge a gift or card still goes a long way.

Branding and marketing are crucial to our businesses for several reasons:

1. Differentiation:

In a competitive market, branding helps businesses stand out from their competitors by creating a unique identity and positioning. It allows companies to highlight their unique selling propositions, values, and benefits, helping customers distinguish them from similar offerings.

2. Customer Recognition:

Effective branding aids in building customer recognition and familiarity. A strong brand with a consistent visual identity, logo, and messaging makes it easier for customers to remember and recognize a business, which leads to increased trust and loyalty.

Have you heard of the know, like, trust method?

The know, like, and trust method is a marketing strategy used to build strong relationships with customers. It involves three steps:

  • Know: This is the first stage where you aim to make your target audience aware of your brand, product, or service. It includes strategies such as advertising, social media campaigns, and content marketing to get your message in front of potential customers.

  • Like: Once people become aware of your brand, the goal is to make them like and connect with your business. This involves creating a positive impression through engaging and relevant content, sharing inspiring stories, and demonstrating the values and personality of your brand.

  • Trust: The final stage is to establish trust with your audience. This can be achieved by consistently delivering on your promises, providing high-quality products or services, offering excellent customer service, and showcasing social proof through testimonials or case studies.

By following the know, like, and trust method, you can build a loyal customer base that is more likely to engage with your brand, make purchase decisions, and become advocates for your business.

When you see the Dermalogica brand or your favourite skincare company name, what comes to mind? Educated skin experts, trust you're in professional hands and you will have a good treatment from an experienced skin therapist.

3. Trust and Credibility:

A well-established and reputable brand builds trust and credibility among customers. When a brand consistently delivers on its promises, provides quality products or services, and maintains positive customer experiences, it enhances its reputation, attracting new customers and fostering customer loyalty.

4. Increased Competitive Advantage:

Strong branding and marketing strategies give businesses a competitive edge. By effectively communicating their value proposition, unique offering, and benefits to the target market, companies can position themselves as market leaders and gain an advantage over their competitors.

5. Emotional Connection:

Branding allows businesses to create an emotional connection with their customers. By leveraging storytelling, imagery, and effective communication, brands can evoke positive emotions and establish a connection that goes beyond the functional benefits of their products or services.

Overall, branding and marketing play a vital role in establishing a business's identity, reputation, customer relationships, and their ability to succeed in the marketplace.
